Southern Pro Challenge PR

With temperatures nearing 100 degrees, Friday night’s action at Lanier National Speedway was just as hot.  USAR Pro Cup and ASA Southeast Late Model racing on Saturday June 26th brought a different format to the Pro Challenge Series for Friday night racing with Hunter Kent, Kyle Plott and the rest of the Pro Challenge field not disappointing the fans.

The 8 lap heat race had Plott starting on the pole with Kent outside.  The drop of the green saw Kent chasing Plott with Brady Boswell, Anderson Bowen and Kyle Wilson in pursuit.  Plott lead the way until lap 7 when Kent was able to get his nose under him going into turn 3 and claim victory coming to the checkered flag, thus setting up the start of the 25 lap feature event.  Now with Kent on the pole and Plott on the outside, once again, it got interesting as Plott took the lead from Kent coming off turn 2 with Bowen and Wilson on their tails.  Clutch cable problems caused Boswell to miss a shift at the start but once he regained his momentum he became a factor in the 5 car battle.  Lap 5 had Kent taking the lead from Plott with Bowen, Boswell and Wilson keeping a tight field.  Lap 14 brought out the first caution with Plott spinning coming off turn 4.  The restart had Kent on the inside with the number 29 of Bowen outside and the 05 of Wilson and 2 of Boswell behind them.  When the green flag fell Kent got the jump on Bowen leaving Wilson to followed Kent for the second position.  Again, Boswell battling clutch problems fell behind but caught the field once he got up to speed.  Lap 17 saw Boswell move into the second position with Bowen, Wilson and Plott making it a tight field once again.  The 29 of Bowen and the 2 car of Boswell fighting for the 2nd position allowed the number 7 car of Kent to stretch out his lead for the final laps.  Coming to the checkered flag Bowen and Boswell got together between turns 3 and 4 leaving the final outcome of the race to Kent as he had already crossed the start/finish line with Kyle Wilson coming in second.

Congratulations go out to Hunter Kent for his second win this season in the south region and another disappointing night fell on Kyle Plott as mechanical issues had him retire early on lap 22.
